Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Macie Jo Foundation?

The Macie Jo Foundation (MJF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to confronting hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) through compassionate family support, education, and advocacy. We work to empower those affected, raise awareness, and promote early intervention to improve outcomes and prevent future cases.

Who is Macie?

Macie is the inspiration behind the Macie Jo Foundation. Macie Jo White (born April 8, 2022) was diagnosed with severe hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) the day she was born. Her parents, Jonathan and Amy White, formed the Macie Jo Foundation when she was a year old to support the families following in their footsteps, raise awareness, and change the trajectory of HIE to prevent the loss of young lives around the world.

Where does the money go?

All funds raised go directly to the Macie Jo Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity. Careful distribution of our grants allows doctors to bring the latest and most promising life-saving treatments to seriously ill children. These grants provide hope for kids fighting HIE. Funds also support programs to help families affected by HIE. Visit our Where the Money Goes section to learn more about how your donation helps.

What is Macie Jo Foundation’s mission?

To change the trajectory of HIE and prevent the loss of young lives through awareness, innovation, and action.

What is Macie Jo Foundation’s vision?

A world where no child’s future is lost to HIE, where families are supported from the start, and where awareness leads to prevention, early action, and lasting hope.

How does Macie Jo Foundation raise funds?

Our donations come from several sources, including: devoted volunteers who host fundraisers; partnerships with businesses and corporations; and individual donations made directly to our Foundation.
